Welcome to the first addition of monthly musings on the farm! So many exciting things have been happening this summer. Lots of newborn chicks have joined the brood. Bernice the Buff Orpington gave birth to three healthy babies in mid July. It has been so exciting to watch them grow up and start to become accustomed to life on the farm. Then, in the beginning of August, we were surprised with another baby Dutch Bantam chick. The more the merrier I say!
This marks our Toulouse geese Phoebe and Finn's second summer enjoying life on the farm. Finn has become quite the guard dog, especially when it comes to protecting Freckles and Little Wing, the Pekin ducks. Phoebe is on the shy side and enjoys bathing in the pond and staying close to home. Finn and the ducks love to adventure, sometimes as far as the neighbor's yard across the pond. They then have to be lured back over to the field with some watermelon. We frequently have to reign in their daily explorations. The goats have been keeping cool during the day in the barn, while the chickens like to find a parked car for shade. Come join me and take a glimpse at all the animals on the farm!

September 2, 2015 at 6:05 pmWhat delightful pictures of your chickens and the ducks eating watermelon of all things. Can’t say I think much of their taste in food (I really don’t like watermelon at all).
