I can’t believe it has been exactly a year since taking my very first trip to Washington, DC. There were so many sights to take in and monuments to see. I was lucky enough to explore the famous National Mall. This is where I came across The United States Botanic Garden. It is filled with tropical plants, a waterfall and even a jungle. When you walk in, you truly feel like you are transported to another world filled with lush gardens and greenery everywhere you look. Join me in this throwback photographic journey, and please enjoy this beautiful botanic garden through my eyes.
Walking into this amazing living plant museum.
The most stunning orange canna lily.
Passing by a banana tree.
Walking through the jungle.
Home to over 5,000 orchard specimens.
Enjoying the world desert.
The pitcher plant, a carnivorous plant that has a pitfall trap to catch insects. This plant is hard not to admire, and it's also fascinating too!
If you are looking to visit different types of gardens around the globe all in one spot, this is the place to visit! I loved viewing the types of plants that thrive in the jungle, rain forests and deserts. I enjoyed how each plant was labeled. This is so helpful if you wish to do further research on a specific type of species. They also have a whole section of medicinal plants with information about how to use them. I learned so much visiting the United States Botanic Garden, and hope to visit again sometime soon.
During my trip, I was also able to see The White House, The United States Capital and The Washington Monument. It was incredible to be able to view all these famous historical sights in person. I visited some memorials including The Lincoln Memorial, The World War II Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial and The Korean War Veterans Memorial. I had so much fun spending a day exploring The Smithsonian Natural History Museum that included The Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Zoo. Another day was spent enjoying the sights at The Smithsonian's National Zoo. Feel free to click through the photo gallery below to view more photographs from my vacation.

September 7, 2015 at 9:56 pmSo many amazing photos! My first trip outside Puerto Rico was to Washington DC (I was 15). I remember visiting this Botanical Garden. I was my first real “botanical garden” experience. I remember how amazed I was looking at all the plants and flowers. Thanks for bringing the good memories back.

Looks like you will have to go back just so you can visit! I feel like when you’re there, it’s impossible to fit in all the many sights and monuments in one trip. I already have a list of things I want to see on my next visit. Thank you for the kind words and have a wonderful weekend 🙂

September 18, 2015 at 4:35 pmHey Eileen,
Thank you very much! It was so hot the day I visited the zoo, the panda bears stayed inside and napped to stay cool. Hopefully, next time I go back they will be awake so I can take pictures of them! 😀 Already looking forward to my next trip. Have a lovely weekend.
