I can’t believe it has been exactly a year since taking my very first trip to Washington, DC. There were so many sights to take in and monuments to see. I was lucky enough to explore the famous National Mall. This is where I came across The United States Botanic Garden. It is filled with tropical plants, a waterfall and even a jungle. When you walk in, you truly feel like you are transported to another world filled with lush gardens and greenery everywhere you look. Join me in this throwback photographic journey, and please enjoy this beautiful botanic garden through my eyes.
Walking into this amazing living plant museum.
The most stunning orange canna lily.
Passing by a banana tree.
Walking through the jungle.
Home to over 5,000 orchard specimens.
Enjoying the world desert.
The pitcher plant, a carnivorous plant that has a pitfall trap to catch insects. This plant is hard not to admire, and it's also fascinating too!
If you are looking to visit different types of gardens around the globe all in one spot, this is the place to visit! I loved viewing the types of plants that thrive in the jungle, rain forests and deserts. I enjoyed how each plant was labeled. This is so helpful if you wish to do further research on a specific type of species. They also have a whole section of medicinal plants with information about how to use them. I learned so much visiting the United States Botanic Garden, and hope to visit again sometime soon.
During my trip, I was also able to see The White House, The United States Capital and The Washington Monument. It was incredible to be able to view all these famous historical sights in person. I visited some memorials including The Lincoln Memorial, The World War II Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial and The Korean War Veterans Memorial. I had so much fun spending a day exploring The Smithsonian Natural History Museum that included The Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Zoo. Another day was spent enjoying the sights at The Smithsonian's National Zoo. Feel free to click through the photo gallery below to view more photographs from my vacation.

September 30, 2015 at 3:34 pmI’m planning a trip to DC soon and I will definitely have to add this garden to my list. May need to add another day to the itinerary, there is just so much to see and I can never get through a garden in hurry. Your photos are fantastic by the way!

September 15, 2015 at 10:31 pmDC is such an amazing place isn’t it? It’s been too many years since I was last there, but I loved it. I also loved that almost everything was free – all of the museums. To me that was utterly amazing. So much to see and so much to do and it was all free! What?! The Botanic Gardens was one of my favorite places. Absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you for joining us for Photo Friday again this week!

September 8, 2015 at 4:46 pmI visited Washington DC many, many years ago…before 9/11, so I was able to walk right into the White House before pre-screenings and all that. I wasn’t into gardening back then like I am now, so I had no idea they even had a botanical gardens or I would have went. Otherwise, I’ve seen everything else you mentioned. My favorite part of DC was that all the attractions are free! My favorite memory was seeing our constitution. Gorgeous photos. TFS.

September 18, 2015 at 9:14 pmHey Amy,
That must have been an amazing trip! I have yet to tour the White House, but definitely have that at the top of my list next time I go. The Botanic Garden is definitely worth a visit, so lovely! I agree, the fact that most things are free is awesome (more money to spend on souvenirs!)
