I am thrilled to be participating in the Baking NOW Holiday Tour hosted by my good friend Beth Billstrom of More Than Oregano. This tour has been featuring a decadent recipe by some culinary loving bloggers. You can't think of the holidays without imagining some delicious dishes that make the season bright. With the dark winter days in full swing, there's nothing more comforting than snuggling up by the fire with some hot cocoa and a plate of homemade cookies! One of my favorite cookies to enjoy around this time of year is the scrumptious snowball cookie. Not only are these baked treats frostbite free, they will be guaranteed to put a smile on your face as soon as the powdered sugar starts to melt in your mouth! Come join me as I share a simple recipe for these delightful delicacies!
Step 1: Gather ingredients and preheat oven to 400°F.
Step 2: Mix butter, powdered sugar, vanilla and salt in a bowl.
Step 3: Add in flour and mix well to create dough.
Step 4: Roll dough into 1 inch balls.
Step 5: Bake for 15 minutes. Take cookies out of oven when bottom is golden brown.
Step 6: Roll cookies in powdered sugar while still hot.
Step 7: Allow cookies to cool for 20 minutes.
Step 8: When cookies have cooled, give final coating of powdered sugar.
Step 9 & 10: Place cookies on serving dish & devour! Enjoy your cookie creations!
- 1 cup butter (2 sticks softened at room temperature)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- Set aside 2-3 cups powdered sugar to roll cookies in
- Prep: Preheat oven to 400°F. Prepare cookie tray with silicon baking mat, parchment paper, cooking spray or you can use a non-stick pan.
- In a medium sized bowl stir butter, powdered sugar, vanilla and salt until well mixed.
- Add in the flour and mix well to create a soft dough.
- Roll dough into 1 inch balls. (make all same size so they cook evenly)
- Bake 15-17 minutes in oven. (they are done when the bottom of cookie is a golden brown color)
- Remove from oven. While cookies are still hot, take a few at a time and roll in powdered sugar. Coat the whole cookie in the sugar (you can do this with tongs to prevent your fingers being burned) then place on baking rack to cool.
- Allow cookies to cool for 20 minutes.
- When cool, do a final coating of powdered sugar as instructed previously.
- Place cookies on serving dish or in storage container.
- The most important step. ENJOY!
- Here are some ingredients you can add to make a fun variation of this cookie. Coconut extract as well as flakes, nuts, crushed up candy canes, candied ginger as well mini chocolate chips. The list is endless!
So many great recipes have been shared on this tour so far. Allie baked some divine Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies. Jan made some temptingly sweet Petit Fours. Jen whipped up some heavenly Honey Pear Baklava. Bren cooked some delectable Chocolate Drizzle Pistachio and Cherry Cookies. Caroline showed us some savory Mini Quiches that will make you salivate. Next week, our host, More Than Oregano, will be sharing a special holiday recipe that you won't want to miss. Do you have a favorite holiday recipe that you look forward to making all year? Please feel free to share with me in the comment section below or tweet me @thefreckledrose. You can also join in on the fun by tweeting your favorite recipe with the hashtag #BakingNOW! December 18, 2015 at 12:59 pmHappiness is warm cookies rolled in powdered sugar. I love the simple ingredients of this recipe. I made a similar one with lime zest and pecans. Reminds me of the Mexican wedding cookies back home.

December 18, 2015 at 11:54 amThese are such a fun idea! I’ve been looking for egg-less recipes to make with my son (in case he sneaky eats the dough) and these seem like the perfect one! It seems super simple that he can even help me make them. Plus we don’t get snow this time of year so it’ll be a little ode to white christmas 🙂
