Project 366 Week 1 & 2

The 366 Photo Challenge 2016

The start of the year is the perfect time to begin a new project.  With some new photography gear added to my arsenal, I've decided to participate in the 2016 photo a day challenge.  Each day, I will be snapping and posting one photo to Instagram for the entire year.  This year happens to be a leap year so, in total, that is 366 photos I will be taking!  I've decided to do a biweekly review with you and share my photos on my blog every other week.  I am following along with The Bethadilly Challenge photo prompts for some extra inspiration.  Come take a look at my first two weeks in review!

Day 001 | 366

Indica

Happy New Year! Snow is on the ground here in New England so of course that means chilly air, crisp blue skies & lots of my boot tracks around the farm. Here is feisty Indica, who thinks she is the boss. Lots of peppermints for this girl today❤️ Leap year woot!

Day 002 | 366 {simple}

Day 002 | 366 {simple}

Winter's garden bones. The skeleton of all that blooms with life in the summertime. Simple beauty nature provides even when in hibernation.

Day 003 | 366 {warm}

Day 003 | 366 {warm}

Kitty staying warm in the sun. She likes the bask on the porch around golden hour.☀️

Day 004 | 366 {morning light}

morning light

Staying toasty with a cup of hot coffee while the morning light shines in. Small pleasures on a Monday.

Day 005 | 366 {frame}

frame

A frame I look through multiple times a day. I snap so many pictures with my iPhone, it's always nice to have it handy. Doing some light garden reading & picking out seeds for spring 🌱 I may have to enter seed catalog addicts anonymous. 😋

Day 006 | 366 {one}

one

As the sun was setting on the farm, I noticed this little lone bird resting its wings.

Day 007 | 366 {free choice}

free choice

Blooming flowers make it feel like summer all year long. Can't get enough of these gorgeous paperwhites this winter!

Day 008 | 366 {looking down}

Day 008 | 366 {looking down}

"It's been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will."-One of my New Year's resolutions is to read for at least 30 minutes a day no matter how busy I am. This book is one of my favorites!

Day 009 | 366 {my workspace}

my workspace

Here is my everyday workspace. My Click magazine, flash drive, expodisc & 85mm lens surround my computer. Oh and sharpies, I LOVE sharpies!! I've been looking at tutorials online for my new photography equipment. So much to learn 💻

Day 010 | 366 {in my cup}

in my cup

A cappuccino kind of Sunday. Fog & rain outside, enjoying sugar & delicious steamed milk inside. ☕️🌧

Day 011 | 366 {classic}

classic

Classic beauty found in nature. Also a classic sign you are an avid gardener when you can't go even a month without a few flowers and plants in the house. It's just impossible!

Day 012 | 366 {emotion}

emotion

Peaceful. There is nothing better than a warm doggy sleeping. I can't think of many other things in life that fill me with such pure joy. The unconditional love a pet gives you can do wonders for the soul.

Day 013 | 366 {new}

new

New hand crafted caramel honey chocolate bees from John and Kira's! I'm so excited to dig into this delicious box.🐝 They are dark chocolate cocoa shells painted with colored cocoa butter filled with salted caramel, featuring local honey. Yum!

Day 014 | 366 {delicate}

delicate

One of my Toulouse goose's delicate feathers from when she last molted. I can't believe Phoebe is turning two this year! I feel like it was just yesterday she was taking her first swim in the tub, following me around the backyard and napping next to my foot while I pruned shrubs. They grow up so fast! ❤️

015 | 366 {starts with w}

015 | 366 {starts with w}

{w}ater droplets. Playing with my macro lens and some neon food coloring. The miniature world of macro is amazing! 💧👁 I may sing A Whole New World in my head while I take close up pictures. I am not ashamed.

My 366 So Far

My 366 So Far

Are you participating in the photo a day challenge?  You don't have to begin on January 1st, you can join in any day of the year!  If you want to be a part of The Bethadilly Challenge on Instagram, all you have to do is post a photo and use the hashtag #thebethadillychallenge.  Make sure to follow the host Beth here and check out her website here for extra motivation and inspiration.  I already find that participating has helped me think outside of the box more when it comes to my photography.  The wonderful thing I love about this challenge is it's all totally your point of view.  It's fun to see each person's perspective and to get that tiny glimpse into a their everyday life.  Beauty is all around, and, this year, I'm hoping to capture some of it!  Don't forget to follow along with me on Flickr and, of course, Instagram using the hashtag #thefreckledrose366.

    What beautiful photos! And by the way, I love the way that you have put these together – such a beautiful layout! I’m not focused enough for a photo-a-day. I wish that I were. More often than not, it is 10 at night and I realize that I haven’t taken a photo. I have much more success with a 52 weeks project. Perhaps after I conquer a 52 weeks, I’ll be able to concentrate enough on a daily project.

    thank you for sharing with us at Photo Friday!

      Thank you so much Jen! Sometimes I am the same way, I have to wait until inspiration strikes! I don’t like forcing it to much 🙂 It’s been fun so far, makes me think out of the box!

    What’s your secret to taking such detailed macro photos? I still can’t figure out how to dial in my new Canon DSLR without causing macro shots to become too dark or shadowed.

      When it comes to macro photography, lighting makes all the difference. As much lighting as possible, and just when you think you have enough, add more lighting! Also if you can, invest in an external flash with a flashbender! I’m hoping to eventually purchase a ring light for my macro lens but they tend to be on the expensive side. Hope that helps & let me know if you have any other questions 🙂
