Monthly Musings On The Farm-March

Hello and welcome to another edition of Monthly Musings on the Farm!  Phoebe, my girl goose, is still busy making nests and laying eggs.  Finn, my male goose, and self proclaimed leader of the waterfowl gang has been looking to expand his pack of ladies.  He has started socializing with the Canadian geese and integrating himself with their flock.  When it comes to ladies, Finn's motto is the more the merrier.  The wild geese don't seem to mind one bit.  On the other hand, our two female pekin ducks seem a tad confused by this.  They come up to the farm without their beloved leader.  No worries, they are quick to forgive.  As soon as he comes barreling up from the brook, they are back to being his faithful followers.  The two bantam chickens are bosom buddies connected at the hip.  You will rarely find one without the other.  Burt and Roo are continuing to try and out-crow one another and having their daily battle royale.  There is never a clear winner in this competition.  The only loser is everyone's ear drums. Come see what else has been happening this spring on the farm!

Phoebe & Finn enjoying their first summer on the farm.

Hoping the days keep getting warmer and longer! I'm ready to hear the crickets and see the fireflies again.  The lilacs look like they're getting ready to bloom and soon the crabapple trees will be flowering.  Is the weather finally beginning to warm up where you live?  Seeing any new blooms or adding any new chicks to your flock?  Let me know in the comment section below or tweet me pictures @thefreckledrose.  I'll see you back here next month with an update and more photos from the farm!

Beautiful photos! I want to get geese some day, but it probably won’t happen until I have a stall to lock them in at night. I need to get a better setup.

Thank you for sharing on the Homestead Blog Hop.

Yes, believed me, I still get shocked at the size when I see them! I’ll have to post a pic of the goose egg compared to a bantam egg. It’s nuts! Thank you 🙂

It is gradually getting warmer here in Normandy although we had a couple of sharp frosts early in the week. My hens are laying well as are my 2 ducks who are hopeless mothers so we don’t allow them to sit. Sadly our good mother duck has not laid yet and I fear she may be getting too old. It may be a year without duckling then …. unless I get some at the market! Thank you for adding your beautiful farm photos to #AnimalTales. I can’t pin any at the moment as I am having Pinterest issues but I will do as soon as it is resolved (when-ever that is!)

So glad it’s warming up there, I’m so sick of the frosts! Can’t wait until they are fully over and done with here in New England so I can get planting outdoors. I’m doing a little here and there, but don’t want to take any big risks. It’s always nice to have hens laying eggs. I don’t allow my geese and ducks to sit, they are hopeless mothers as well! Market ducklings are always a good option 🙂 I try not to go look, otherwise I want to take them all home with me! Always happy to link up!

Always love visiting your farm and animated characters. Love their names. I use to name the animals when I was growing up on the farm.
