Project 366 Weeks 13 & 14

The 366 Photo Challenge 2016

The lilac bushes are becoming filled with buds.  The winter weather made a short comeback, but the plants seem to be bouncing back.  Spring gardening tasks were pushed to the side because of the snow we experienced here in New England.  Instead, I stayed indoors and decided to start some seeds!  They have sprouted, and now I'm enjoying watching them grow stronger each day.  It was relaxing to thumb through some botanical books, and it also took my mind off the bad weather.  All of it melted relatively quickly, and now the better weather is coming back.  The animals are doing great, and eggs are being laid.  Overall, it’s starting to feel like spring has officially sprung.  Come take a look at my photo a day challenge so far this month!

Day 092 | 366 {bokeh}

Bokeh

Starting to see some life/wick on the lilac bushes. Happy to see these plants starting to bloom again. Oh, and if you've ever seen The Secret Garden, you know what I mean by wick!😉

Day 093 | 366 {a dreaded task}

A Dreaded Task

When it comes to spring gardening tasks, raking is probably the most dreaded. Along with picking up tree branches and pruning. Come to think about it, the only fun part is when it's finally clean! Yep definitely the only fun part!

Day 094 | 366 {paper}

A book full of botanical art to take my mind off of the falling snow outside my window. The Golden Age of Botanical Art by Martyn Rix

Day 095 | 366 {leading lines}

Leading Lines

Elephants at the National Zoo I love how these gentle giants are leaders with a playful cheeky side! They develop strong friendships and take care of one another. We should all emulate these amazing qualities and be like the elephants! 🐘

Day 096 | 366 {joy}

My reward after a long gym session. Just one, or maybe two....😋

Day 098 | 366 {today}

Today

Today was full of downpours and grey skies so I stayed indoors and planted seeds. Here are some soon to be Sweet California Wonder peppers thanks to Handy Helen & Botanical Interests. I see some summer shish kabobs in my future. Ready to watch them grow! 🌱☀️

Day 099 | 366 {sweet tooth}

Sweet Tooth

Sometimes all you need is a warm chocolate chip cookie and a nice tall glass of milk after a long week😊🍪

Day 100 | 366 {a keepsake}

A Keepsake

My grandmothers beautiful ring. As a child I loved how it sparkled and she'd always allow me to wear it for fun. She was such a strong woman. I wear it for strength & to remind me of all the happy memories we shared.

Day 101 | 366 {starts with p}

Starts With P

{P}hoebe my Toulouse goose is in full on nesting mode. Here she is hiding in the hay trailer, keeping her egg nice and toasty.

Day 102 | 366 {the same}

The Same

These are the salt & pepper bantam bosom buddies. On the left is Greta Garbo and on the right is Doris Day. This dynamic duo is convinced they are in fact the same chicken. They are attached at the hip and never leave one another's side.

Day 103 | 366 {three}

Duck, duck, goose! Finn with his lovely ladies.

Day 104 | 366 {what inspires me}

What Inspires Me

New life and growth inspires me to take out my camera and shoot everyday! My spirea bush showing off it's new blooms.

Day 105 | 366 {a self portrait}

A Self Portrait

When your goose lays an egg that is almost as big as your hand!✋Extra watermelon for Phoebe!

Day 106 | 366 {i made this}

I Made This

As a gardener I start to get a strong attachment with the seedlings I grow. Like, yep, totally made those! Then, if something happens to them I feel so much sadder than I do with the plants I just buy at the store. Crazy seed lady? I think so!

    Beautiful photos! Your spirea bush intrigued me. I’d never heard of it before, so I googled it and it looks wonderful! That is definitely on my list for the garden. Our lilacs have burst into flower the last week or so and they’re just stunning.

      Thanks Dave! I look forward to it blooming in late spring! This variety has tiny, beautiful, little white flowers. Lots of different varieties, hoping to add more this year!

    Your photos are beautiful and I really love that little seedling picture at the end. I so want to try this challenge starting January 1 (I take pics every day as it is but I want to do one for a full year).

    You’re photos are beautiful! I decided this year to give gardening a bit of a try. I’m a little too frightened to try seeds, but I am giving it a go with raspberries, blueberries, and kale. Kind of excited to see where this adventure leads. Maybe I’ll end up with some pretty pictures too!

      Thanks Jean-Marie! Those are great plants to start out with 🙂 I grow all of those crops in my yard and I find them especially rewarding. Nothing like fresh berries in your own backyard. Feel free to share pictures with me. I’d love to see!

    As always, lovely photos. I totally relate with your last caption. Haha! I had horrible UNsuccess with my seeds this year. They all came up so well then just stopped and eventually died. I was heartbroken. I had a few survive and replanted a few others to see if it would work out the second time, but went to home depot yesterday and bought a few baby plants just to get SOMETHING going. Haha

      Thank Rachel! I’m sorry about your seeds. I’ve learned that is is definitely an art, and so many elements can go wrong. They aren’t very forgiving if something is off just a bit like water or light. Try not to let it discourage you or get you down for too long & don’t give up! Wishing you luck with your seconds batch of plants!
