May Garden Update

My garden has finally starting bursting with color.  It seems like we had such a long winter here in zone 6a New England with the late freeze that hit.  Everything seems to have bounced back and has begun to bloom.  So excited to see the return of some of my favorite perennials.  The peonies are almost ready to start flowering.  The poppies have really taken off, and my phlox continue to add color to the shade garden.  I've added some of my favorite annuals.  Cosmos, snap dragons and petunias are all putting on a show.  Annuals fill my container gardens along with some vines.  My honeysuckle and Bougainvillea are catching the attention of the hummingbirds.

A house finch has made a nice little nest in my bird house.  My vegetable garden is off to a wonderful start with peas, greens and sprouting seeds.  The strawberry patch is filled with blooms and I'm hoping to start picking some in June.  The herbs and companion plants are all doing well, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store!  Come enjoy some photographs of what's blooming in the May garden below.  Feel free to click on the links below to read more about what I'm growing over on PlantsMap.com.

Do you have a favorite in your garden that blooms or is ready to harvest in May?  I'm keeping my eye out for some blooming peonies, salvia and daisies this June.  I also love harvesting strawberries, peas and chives around this time of year.  Right now my main focus is adding some pollinator friendly plants to my butterfly garden.  Looking to add more shrubs and annuals for my winged friends to enjoy.  If you have any suggestions, please feel free to comment below or tweet me @thefreckeldrose.  Wishing you beautiful blooms and bountiful harvests!

Beautiful photos as always! I am pretty envious of your garden. I live in a rental in the city and have moved around a fair bit so haven’t got the chance to do much in the way of gardening. I really want to get some potted herbs going again though 🙂

A wonderful selection of Flowers & Veggies. I haven’t seen Snap Dragons in many many years. My Mum used to always have them growing in the garden.

When we bought our house in the middle of the winter, we had no idea that there were beautiful flowers and landscaping all around it! As the seasons change, our family is fully enjoying the opportunity to observe the various colors and flowers in our yard!
