They sell garden planters of all shapes and sizes to accommodate your gardening needs. These gorgeous planters are made out of reclaimed pieces of milled cedar wood. Create a small raised vegetable garden or fill it with delicious herbs. The options are endless, so grow what you love!
I am proud to be a CedarCraft Blogger Ambassador. Every gardener has a particular style and I am thrilled to get creative and turn my container gardening dreams into a reality. My friends at CedarCraft sent me the cascading garden planter. As soon as I finished the easy set up process, it exceeded my expectations. The three tier design is visually stunning and it is the perfect size for a porch or patio. I decided to create my own chef-friendly herb garden. I love growing herbs, but sometimes find it strenuous having them planted so far away from the house. Often when you are cooking, you want to be able to use them immediately or just quickly throw some in a dish. I decided to put this planter close to my kitchen to make it easy and quick to harvest.
Made with 100% sustainably grown Western Red Cedar, CedarCraft uses reclaimed pieces of milled cedar wood.
Creating A Chef-Friendly Herb Garden
As soon as I knew I wanted to plant herbs, I started making a list of my favorites to cook with. Along with this, I also polled some of my gardening friends to get an idea of what others favorites are as well. With this, I narrowed it down to a select group of desired winners and headed for the gardening center. I find that knowing what you are looking for makes these trips to the store a little less overwhelming. It also keeps me focused and deters me from impulsively buying every gorgeous plant I see. I was also looking for some organic container garden potting soil on this trip to keep my baby plants happy and healthy. I decided on Dr. Earth Pot Of Gold Premium Soil.
• Cilantro
• Fernleaf Dill
• Sweet Mint
• Hot & Spicy Oregano
• Curled Parsley
• Flat Italian Parsley
• German Thyme
When it came to filling my cascading garden planter with soil, I ended up using about 1 1/2 bags. This planter comes with a fitted liner for each tier. This is such a nice feature and really helps retain soil and control drainage. I find that placing it close to my house not only makes it easier and more convenient for me to pick herbs, but also protects my plants from strong gusts of wind. Having new plants at an elevated height really stops pests and small critters from creating destruction. When you put so much work into creating and planting a new garden, it's a relief to know it is safe from furry backyard wanderers.
The Results
Seeing my herb garden come together was such a fun experience. Not only is the cascading garden planter easy to set up, it is absolutely stunning. Seeing it full of herbs and a bee already eagerly buzzing around my plants was a wonderful sight. If you have a busy schedule, this is the planter for you. My garden was planted and done in under a day with some extra time to sit back and enjoy my hard work with a cold glass of sweet tea.
Who can ever resist a little decoration? I purchased this terra-cotta sign at The Newport Flower Show. It was made by Coldbrooke Pottery located in Scituate, Massachusetts. I thought it fit in perfectly, and hopefully the bees will get the message!

May 1, 2016 at 3:15 pmI love a nice herb garden! I got the hang of doing it when living in Texas, but now that I moved to scandinavia I absolutely can’t figure it out. Totally different climate. Everything I try to grow just poops out on me 🙁 One more year and I can have plants again. Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing with us at From The Archives Friday!!

February 29, 2016 at 6:19 pmI have been wanting to plant herbs and have limited space and have looked into container gardening, but get so overwhelmed. You broke it down nice and easy for me and I love that planter! It looks great, and seems to hold lots of herbs at once! I can already taste the food I’ll be cooking with them.

Yes, I am obsessed with the cascading planter! I had it on my wish list, and it still puts a smile on my face to harvest from it daily. It is a perfect size to grow herbs in and it’s really nice having it so close to my kitchen. CedarCraft has other great planters as well that would be perfect to grow veggies in so you should definitely check it out. Thank you very much 🙂 Have a great week.

August 31, 2015 at 6:51 amLooks magnificent. I can list at least 25 different ways the tree rats in my neighborhood would decimate this fine beauty though. We have a serious problem in my neighborhood. Next time I’ll try building a greenhouse.

August 31, 2015 at 10:40 amThank you so much Leisel! Total bummer on the tree rats, YIKES! This planter would work super well in a greenhouse. I’m hoping to build a greenhouse of my own in the future. It would be nice to extend my harvest here in New England to all year round. Have a wonderful week 🙂
